Daniel Ivanov
Daniel Ivanov is a photographer working at the intersection of several photographic genres: documentary, portrait, reportage, and visual storytelling.
He was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia. He studied organic chemistry at Saint Petersburg University and Utrecht University, then art history and icon painting at the Saint Petersburg Academy of Arts. This combination of science and art shaped an analytical, investigative взгляд on people, environment, and time, with close attention to secondary details and the search for hidden connections.
Since the early 2000s, he worked as a photojournalist for Kommersant Publishing House and Newsweek, later continuing as an independent author across Russia, Europe, and Asia. He photographed major international sporting events, social and documentary subjects, urban life, industrial regions, environmental issues, and human stories.
His work has been exhibited in Russia, Europe, Israel, Japan, and the United States.
At the core of his approach are humanism, respect for the individual, and the desire to reveal substance behind outward form. Regardless of genre—street photography, portraiture, reportage, or personal projects—the central element remains the inner presence of the person within the frame. Many years in sports journalism gave him rare experience in reacting instantly to dynamic situations, as well as a strong technical foundation in photography.
Since 2022, he has lived and worked in Paris, where he continues to develop personal photographic projects focused on ecology, social environments, and urban space.
He leads street photography workshops in Paris, across France, and throughout Europe.
He is open to collaborations with media outlets, galleries, curators, publishers, brands, and private clients in France, Europe, and beyond.
