Street portrait

When I walk down the street, I intuitively feel when something about a stranger nearby catches my attention — their gaze, posture, clothing, way of speaking — anything that sets them apart from the crowd and reveals their individuality. That’s what interests me most. Of course, light is important, but it’s secondary — it can always be “caught” or “woven.”

Lively faces tell us far more about a city than its architecture ever could. I love photography with a sense of humor, but I would never aim to capture a moment where the grotesque slips into ridicule, because respect for my subjects — people I know nothing about — is the foundation of my ethical code. And besides, it’s a great way to make connections in a new place.
